Vintage original hand-painted theatrical set design on Bainbridge Illustration Board No. 80, executed in gouache or tempera and signed “R.V.R.” by Robert E. Van Rosen (1904–1966), American industrial designer, stage designer, author, and lecturer. The composition portrays two Renaissance-style male figures in vivid costume—one wearing a gold brocade robe with intricate floral patterning, striped cap, and decorative leggings, the other dressed in blue and brown garments with red-trimmed sleeves and pointed shoes—engaged in expressive dialogue. Rendered in rich color with stylized shading and strong linear outlines characteristic of mid-century theatrical and scenic art. Reverse bears Associated Scenic Artists Local 829 union stamp and partial tape remnant. Surface wear, chipping, creasing, and edge losses consistent with age and handling. Board cracking top center left, ~6" crack.
