Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, you’ll choose a bid strategy. Your chosen strategy determines how the current bid will be set at the time your bid is placed. Your maximum bid always remains confidential.
The available strategies are:
🐢 Slow & Steady — starts your bid low and lets others chase you.
⚡💥 Power Bid — starts at about half your max to show intent without revealing your top number.
♥️♠️ All In ♦️♣️ — sets the current bid to your full bid amount right away.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 019 - Vintage Entomology Specimen Display of Cocoons, Pupae, and Chrysalids from Worldwide Localities with Monarch Butterfly Specimen, in Glass-Front Wood Cabinet Attributed to Hans Luhr, Kiel, Germany, 17-1/4" L x 12-7/8" H
Vintage entomology specimen display containing a collection of cocoons, pupae, and chrysalids from various moth and butterfly species, mounted and labeled with handwritten identification cards. Localities referenced on the labels include India, Japan, Florida, East Africa, America, and others. A monarch butterfly specimen is mounted at lower right. The collection includes silk cocoons, bare pupae, and chrysalids still attached to twigs and leaf material. The glass-front wood cabinet is attributed to Hans Luhr, Kiel, Germany, consistent in construction with other labeled examples from the same collection.
This display is attributed to a former museum collection, though this provenance cannot be independently verified. The specimens show varying degrees of wear consistent with long-term storage, including general fragility and some loose material. Evidence of past pest infiltration is present; the case has been opened, examined, and superficially cleaned, and no active pest infiltration was found.
While these displays will be carefully packaged to prevent exterior damage during shipping, shifting or loosening of specimens may occur in transit. The cabinet opens easily for readjustment upon receipt.
