Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, you’ll choose a bid strategy. Your chosen strategy determines how the current bid will be set at the time your bid is placed. Your maximum bid always remains confidential.
The available strategies are:
🐢 Slow & Steady — starts your bid low and lets others chase you.
⚡💥 Power Bid — starts at about half your max to show intent without revealing your top number.
♥️♠️ All In ♦️♣️ — sets the current bid to your full bid amount right away.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 013 - Vintage Entomology Life History Specimen Display of Danaus Plexippus (Monarch Butterfly) with Viceroy Butterfly Comparison, in Plastic-Front Display Case, 14-1/4" L x 11-1/4" H
Vintage entomology life history specimen display of Danaus plexippus (monarch butterfly), presenting the full life cycle with labeled stages including eggs, caterpillar, chrysalid, adults in resting position, mating flight, and individual adult male and female specimens. A milkweed food plant specimen (Asclepias) is mounted along the left side. A viceroy butterfly is included at upper right for comparison. A printed label at lower right reads "Life History: Danaus plexippus, Range: World over, Food Plant: Milkweed (Asclepias), Monarch Butterfly." The case has a clear plastic front affixed to the wood base with fabric tape around the edge.
This display is attributed to a former museum collection, though this provenance cannot be independently verified. The specimens show varying degrees of wear consistent with long-term storage, including general fragility. Evidence of past pest infiltration is present; the case has been opened, examined, and superficially cleaned, and no active pest infiltration was found.
While these displays will be carefully packaged to prevent exterior damage during shipping, shifting or loosening of specimens may occur in transit. The case opens easily for readjustment upon receipt.
