"The Life, Trial and Execution of Capt. John Brown" in the "New Edition — With Additions," published by Robert M. De Witt, 160 & 162 Nassau Street, New York, entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1859. The title page identifies Captain John Brown as "Old Brown of Ossawatomie" and describes the contents as a full account of the attempted insurrection at Harper's Ferry, compiled from official and authentic sources, including Cooke's Confession and all the incidents of the execution. The front cover features a portrait engraving of John Brown. The inside front cover carries publisher's advertisements for game instruction books including "Morphy's Match Games," "Elements of Draughts," and "Chess-Player's Instructor." Printed by W.H. Tinson, stereotyped by Geo. Russell & Co.

The soft covers are heavily worn with edge losses, tears, and soiling. The pages show extensive foxing, staining, and toning throughout, with fragile and chipped edges.
