The cover is titled "The Four Seasons of Life" in white and black lettering on mustard cloth with pictorial vignettes depicting the four stages of life. The spine is lettered with the title, author, and publisher.

Illustrated throughout with engraved plates and chromolithograph color plates including a harvest scene captioned "Manhood matured with wisdom's fruit, Succeeds, as Autumn follows Summer's prime," copyrighted 1885 by P.W. Ziegler & Co. The cloth covers show soiling and minor wear to the edges and spine ends. Interior pages show light toning.
