First American from the Last London Edition. Volumes III and IV of four volumes. Published by R. M'Dermut & D.D. Arden, No. 1, City-Hotel, Broadway, New York, 1814. The title page includes a Greek-language epigraph from Polybius. The title page is signed in ink "S. Cheyne" at the top.

Bound in full brown leather with gilt-tooled spines featuring floral and Greek key border designs and black leather title labels lettered "Gillies' Greece." These are Volumes III and IV only; Volumes I and II are not present. The leather shows heavy wear, scuffing, and losses on both volumes, with cracking at the spine joints and losses at the head and tail. Interior pages show foxing and toning.
