Here is a great circa 1890s copy of The Essays or Counsels Civil and Moral of Francis Bacon including his Apophthegms, Elegant Sentences, and Wisdom of the Ancients, with an introduction by Henry Morley, LL.D., professor of English literature at University College, London. This book was published by A.L. Burt of New York as part of "Burt's Library of the World's Best Books." The book has no copyright date, but a bit of handwriting in the opening pages dates it to the 1890s. This leather bound book features marbled covers and is in good condition with signs of wear from normal handling and use. The binding is in good condition, though there is some separation at the rear of the book.
