Pair of extensive vintage snapshot photo albums containing over 600 candid photographs documenting Army National Guard training and daily life in the lead-up to World War II, spanning 1938–1942. From the albums of Sgt. D.L. Dressler, with images from Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania; Virginia Beach; Fort Eustis; Fort Meade, Maryland; North Carolina maneuvers; Camp Edwards, Massachusetts; Solomon Islands, Maryland; Camp Thalia, Virginia; Camp White; and Morehead City, North Carolina. Includes candid and informal photos of soldiers shaving, playing baseball, socializing, and relaxing, along with portraits, family images, and scenes with women. Notably includes a handwritten note dated “Sept–Dec 1941” that reads: “We were returning from this maneuver on Dec. 7, 1941 — the day Pearl Harbor was bombed.” Photos are well-captioned in white ink. Albums themselves are in poor condition, with detached or missing covers, rough and torn edges, and loose pages, though contents remain intact. Albums measure 15" x 11" and 13" x 10".
