Framed pair of Victorian-era hair ornaments advertisements, presented one above the other. The clippings are printed engravings, likely removed from a period book or magazine, illustrating hair jewelry including bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, sleeve buttons, breastpins, and ornamental forms incorporating braided hair.

Both advertisements include pricing lists for the various forms of hairwork jewelry and feature detailed line engravings showing popular designs of the period. The text reflects mid-19th-century sentimental attitudes toward hair as a keepsake and memorial material.

The clippings are housed in an antique gilt wood frame with applied hanging ring. The framing itself is modern, as received, with the advertisements mounted behind glass.

Printed text includes the following passage, reproduced here in full:

“Hair is at once the most delicate and lasting of our materials, and survives us like love. It is so light, so gentle, so escaping from the idea of death, that, with a lock of hair belonging to a child or friend, we may almost look up to heaven and compare notes with the angelic nature—may almost say: ‘I have a piece of thee here, not unworthy of thy being now.’”

Condition shows toning, spotting, and light surface wear to the paper consistent with age. The frame shows scattered wear, gilt loss, and surface abrasions consistent with age and handling.
