Pre-Auction Notes: These scrapbooks are nearly completely filled with various official documents, mostly arrest warrants for criminal and other acts. Listed crimes include assault and battery, cutting with a knife, threatening to injure, stealing personal property, being an idle person, and having a bastard child out of wedlock, among other offenses. Most documents appear to be issued to Asa Gray, Justice of the Peace for the County of Newport, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Some of these documents date as early as the 1840s, with most being from the 1860s. Albums themselves are in craft grade condition, and all contents are glued to the pages. Most documents are glued only at the top or side, allowing for viewing of the back sides of the documents.
