Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, you’ll choose a bid strategy. Your chosen strategy determines how the current bid will be set at the time your bid is placed. Your maximum bid always remains confidential.
The available strategies are:
🐢 Slow & Steady — starts your bid low and lets others chase you.
⚡💥 Power Bid — starts at about half your max to show intent without revealing your top number.
♥️♠️ All In ♦️♣️ — sets the current bid to your full bid amount right away.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 086 - Grouping Of Three Vintage Framed Photographs Of Arthur T. Howard Including U.S. Navy Portrait, Exeter Fraternity Class Photograph, And Military Portrait Of Cousin Charles P. Howard
Grouping of three vintage framed black and white photographs documenting the life of Arthur T. Howard and family. The first is a studio portrait of Arthur T. Howard as a young U.S. Navy enlisted sailor in dress uniform with white cap bearing eagle and shield motif, dark uniform jacket with single star and single stripe rating badge on sleeve, housed in a wood frame painted blue with gold pinstripes (9-1/8" x 11-1/8"). The second photograph shows an Exeter Fraternity class of 32 teenage boys in suits arranged in three tiers on a lawn in front of a white ivy-covered school building with porch, with Arthur T. Howard identified as third from left in the back row alongside Edward White and Steve Brennan, in a black frame. The verso bears a green shield-shaped sticker from Plummer's Art Shop, Melrose, Massachusetts, and a white and red label inscribed "Exeter Fraternity Arthur Howard, Edward White, Steve Brennan." (12-5/8" x 9-1/8") The third is a sepia-toned studio portrait of middle-aged man with mustache and glasses wearing military uniform with two-stripe chevron on sleeve and pins on lapel, housed in a black frame. The verso of the third photograph bears an inscription identifying the subject as "Charles P. Howard 124 Beacon St. Boston Cousin of James Howard 1st, ATH's father." (8" x 10") All three photographs exhibit wear consistent with age, and frames show corresponding period wear.
