Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, you’ll choose a bid strategy. Your chosen strategy determines how the current bid will be set at the time your bid is placed. Your maximum bid always remains confidential.
The available strategies are:
🐢 Slow & Steady — starts your bid low and lets others chase you.
⚡💥 Power Bid — starts at about half your max to show intent without revealing your top number.
♥️♠️ All In ♦️♣️ — sets the current bid to your full bid amount right away.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 089 - Grouping Of Six Vintage Boarded Studio Portrait Photographs Of Exeter Fraternity Classmates Of Arthur T. Howard, Each Inscribed, Cunningham Exeter New Hampshire
Grouping of six matching vintage boarded black and white studio portrait photographs from Cunningham, Exeter, New Hampshire, depicting classmates of Arthur T. Howard from the Exeter Fraternity, each with handwritten inscriptions to "Art."
The first shows Bob Prescott, identified on verso as "Bob Prescott Exeter and Dartmouth," inscribed "To Art: Best of luck to Cousin Cambyses, the best room-mate I ever had. Don't forget your public, or he'll get sore. I'll see you next year at Harvard. Regards to General Padi. Bob."
The second depicts an unidentified student nicknamed "Smitty" inscribed "Art - I enjoyed playing hockey with you this winter and also substituting for you as chapel monitor - let's see you get three betters at Harvard - As ever, Smitty."
The third portrays Edward White, identified on verso as "Edward White Exeter Harvard," with inscription continuing from front to back: "Art - I am very glad to bestow on you this token of estime and friendship toward you, Ra, king of terse expression and finger torture. Allah and Vanity Fair will always be your friends. I find that reciprocity, which you so foolishly suggested to me, is an excellent way to give away these pictures. I hope that the 'deek' and pride of AEPi will go places at Harvard without a sedative. See you again, Wheat."
The fourth shows Warren Almstead, identified on verso as "Warren Almstead Exeter and Harvard," inscribed "Frank - You know I can't say much except 'It's a great thing' just two members of that 'august body' - Flip."
The fifth features an unidentified classmate named "Russ" inscribed "To Art - Hoping we can continue the past three years down at Harvard. I certainly have enjoyed playing sports with you, and am looking forward to more next year. Russ."
The sixth depicts Arthur Houserman, identified on verso as "Arthur Houserman Exeter and Harvard," inscribed "Dear Art, You don't deserve this picture, for you wouldn't give me a football picture, but nevertheless here's mine. I could throw the ball but all i will say is thanks for making 4 years much more pleasant than i could imagine. Art."
Most photographs have identification labels on the verso. All exhibit wear consistent with age and handling.
