Grouping of eight antique cabinet card portrait photographs featuring prominent 19th-century American figures, including H.B. Bigelow (Governor of Connecticut, 1834–1891), Robert Green Ingersoll (“The Great Agnostic,” lawyer and orator, 1833–1899), Henry Ward Beecher (abolitionist clergyman and reformer, 1813–1887), Nathaniel Parker Willis (writer and editor, 1806–1867), and Howard Crosby (Presbyterian preacher and Chancellor of New York University, 1826–1891). One photograph bears a signature from H.B. Bigelow. Additional unidentified sitters are included. A fine assemblage of late 19th-century portrait photography documenting notable figures of American public life. Exhibits light wear, minor toning, and handling marks consistent with age.
