Antique finely modeled wax portrait relief of an unidentified gentleman in profile, signed G. Grütter (with umlaut). Mounted on reverse-painted black glass beneath a domed convex cover glass with gilt brass bezel and ebonized wooden frame. Continental work, likely Swiss or French, dating to the early Victorian or Biedermeier period, circa 1830–1845, reflecting the era’s tradition of wax portrait miniatures and memorial reliefs. The piece has been repaired in-house: verso paint retouched and the wax form reattached within the dome using modern adhesive. Wear consistent with age.
