Antique fraternal memorial ribbon from America Council No. 84 of the United American Mechanics, Montville, Connecticut. Two-sided silk ribbon features blue satin on front face and black fabric on reverse. Front displays "AMERICA COUNCIL NO 84" in white lettering at top, followed by Masonic square and compass symbol. Central design features embroidered or printed American flag with decorative rope border and tassels. Bottom reads "U. A. M." and "Montville, Conn." in white text. Reverse side shows identical layout in gold lettering on black ground with "IN MEMORIAM" text, identifying this as a mourning or memorial ribbon worn during funerals and commemorative ceremonies. Scalloped leather or heavy cardboard header features embossed oak leaf and acorn design with decorative border tooling. Metal pin bar attached to back of header for wearing. Metallic bullion fringe trim along bottom edge. The United American Mechanics was a nativist fraternal organization founded in 1845, reaching peak popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Ribbon exhibits age-appropriate wear including some fading and discoloration to silk, minor edge fraying, and partial fringe loss. Header shows surface wear consistent with age.
