Antique transferware pottery sailor’s grave bowl featuring a sailing ship and a transfer-printed sailor’s grave poem with original line breaks:

"The man doom'd to sail
with the blast of the gale
through billows of Atlantic steer
as he bends o'er the wave
which may soon be his grave
remember his home with a tear"

The opposite side bears an additional poem that is largely illegible due to the transfer crossing the base of the bowl. The exterior and interior are richly decorated with thick metallic pink ornamentation. No maker’s mark. Roughness around the base but no chips. Early to mid 19th century.

Dimensions: 5-7/8" L x 5-7/8" W x 3" H
