Antique surgical implement kit by Geo. Tiemann & Co., New York, containing twelve instruments including four with bone handles. Eight implements bear the original Tiemann stamp on metal, confirming origin to the kit. Paper label inside lid reads “Manufacturers of Surgical Implements & Every Description of Cutlery.” Implements include a triple chain hook for holding cavities open during dissection or autopsy, five scalpels (one with a broken handle and missing fragment, another with medical tape securing the blade to the handle), small curved scissors, large tweezers, pointed metal hook, a hollow tapered metal tube, a metal wedge or plane tool, and a glass dropper with rubber squeeze (likely a later addition). Interior lined in green velvet. Contained in a wood box formerly featuring an inlay or monogram on the lid, now lost and leaving a recessed cavity. Interior tool holders exhibit wear, including a missing wooden support piece. Wear consistent with age and use. Item dimensions are of box.
