Antique molded red clay figural desk piece featuring a lion standing over its prey, with a tree-stump form container at the back that may have originally served as a match safe, inkwell, pen holder, or similar utility function. The smaller opening at the side could have supported quills or matches. The piece is well-detailed with naturalistic modeling of the lion’s mane and base, and is impressed on the underside with the initials “O.S.” and the number 1629. Condition shows chips, edge wear, and losses to the base, along with general surface wear consistent with age. A distinctive example of figural red clay deskware or decorative art from the 19th–early 20th century.
