Antique pressed copper relief titled "Apotheosis of Homer," after the marble relief by Archelaus of Priene, likely of the 3rd century B.C. and now housed in the British Museum. The composition celebrates the deification of the poet Homer, depicting him enthroned and crowned by figures representing the personifications of the Iliad and the Odyssey, with surrounding deities, muses, and symbolic attendants paying tribute. The copper plate is marked “J.M. April 1856” and shows evidence of hand-cut edges at the top and bottom. Surface oxidation, bending, and irregular edges consistent with age and handling.
