Antique Polish postmortem photograph assemblage memorializing a husband and mother, dated December 1941. The composition features a black-and-white postmortem photograph of two individuals laid side by side, surrounded by hand-applied gilt and silver paper lettering reading “Zawczaś Drogi Mężu, Droga Mama” (“Too Soon, Dear Husband, Dear Mother”) and decorated with embossed metallic floral appliqués. Red numbers below the inscription indicate their dates of death, December 25 and 27, 1941, and their ages, 83 and 59. Created during the German occupation of Poland, a period of severe wartime hardship when civilian deaths from illness and deprivation were widespread. The photograph is set behind glass in its original gilt frame with wooden back and wire hanger. Surface wear, flaking, toning, and age-related discoloration throughout consistent with age and materials. Circa 1941.
