Antique American swordfish bill sword with original hand-painted decoration, likely a sailor- or fisherman-made piece from the late 19th to early 20th century. The bill is painted with a detailed image of a U.S. naval warship with twin funnels, along with a patriotic shield flanked by crossed American flags and geometric motifs. Retains its carved wooden grip with old surface and a deep alligatored paint patina consistent with age. A scarce example of maritime folk art from the New England whaling or fishing tradition. Tip worn with expected losses to paint at tip and scattered losses elsewhere.

Dimensions: 39-3/8" L x 1-1/4" W x 3-1/2" H
