Antique illustrated Halloween postcard showing three women engaged in the fortune-telling game of bobbing for apples, watched by a startled black cat and a witch motif inset. Verse reads: “Take a tub of water with some apples in; whisper the name you want before you begin…” from “Halloween Series No. 1.” Postmarked Denver, Colorado, October 28, 1909, and addressed to Evadne Fitzgerald, Nevada, Iowa, with a lengthy handwritten message on verso referencing family updates and a child’s progress. The imagery reflects the old Halloween superstition that successfully catching an apple foretold romantic luck or marriage within the year. General wear and tear consistent with age and handling, including corner and edge wear, light creasing, and mild surface soiling. Each postcard includes a poly sleeve and rigid top loader.
