Antique early 18th-century hollowed book safe created from an authentic religious volume titled “Traittez sur la Prière Publique, et sur les Dispositions pour Offrir les SS. Mysteres, et y Participer avec Fruit” (“Treatise on Public Prayer, and on the Dispositions for Offering the Holy Mysteries, and Participating in Them with Profit”), printed in Brussels in 1707 by Eugene Henry Fricx, Imprimeur & Marchand Libraire. Bound in full calf leather with ornate gilt floral tooling along the spine and an embossed decorative border on the covers. The interior has been meticulously hollowed to form a hidden compartment, stamped “France” and “P-V” within an oval, likely denoting the French craftsman responsible for the conversion. Retains a beautiful aged patina with wear, scuffs, and edge losses consistent with age. A fine example of 18th-century devotional printing later repurposed into a secret compartment, blending ecclesiastical history with early ingenuity.
