Antique glass photographic paperweight depicting Edward F. Searles’ grand Block Island mansion, often referred to as “Searles’ Folly.” Built by the wealthy interior designer and architect Edward F. Searles, the estate once stood atop the Corrugated Bluffs overlooking what is now Mansion Beach, Block Island, Rhode Island. Known for its “oriental splendor” and distinctive dome, the ornate residence was one of the island’s most striking landmarks before being destroyed by fire in the 1960s. Only the stone foundations and brick pediments remain visible at the site today. The image is preserved beneath clear glass in typical early paperweight form, with light age wear to the photograph and backing.
