Pre-Auction Notes: Antique tin case marked Fraisse Laboratories, 8 Rue Jasmin, Paris containing five glass ampules with paper labels, one small glass vial of pills, and one vacant slot where a tube is missing. Surviving ampules include examples labeled Strychnia Sulph., Pure Ether, Sparteine, Ergotine, Camphorated Oil, and Caffeine. The interior lid retains its original printed paper chart listing drug types and ampule color codes, while the reverse paper insert advertises Fraisse specialized ampoules for the treatment of anemia, neurasthenia, and arteriosclerosis.

These portable medical kits were produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for physicians and traveling practitioners. Fraisse Laboratories of Paris marketed their “Emergency Medical Pocket” internationally, with distribution networks in New York and London noted inside the tin. Such kits reflected the rise of injectable therapies during this era, when glass ampules were standardized for dosage control and portability. The inclusion of stimulants, tonics, and toxic agents such as strychnine highlights period medical practice before modern regulation of pharmaceuticals.
