Antique framed certificate of membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), issued to Mrs. Bertha Phelps Smith of Washington, D.C., dated March 5, 1913, and signed by Recording Secretary General Marie Milkinson Hopkins. The printed and handwritten certificate confirms the acceptance of Mrs. Smith’s application for membership and inclusion on the national rolls. National number 194781 printed at bottom edge. Original small period wooden frame with paper backing showing handwritten accession number “3013” in pencil. The D.A.R., founded in 1890, is a lineage-based patriotic organization dedicated to historic preservation, education, and the commemoration of Revolutionary War ancestors. Light toning, edge wear, and surface soiling consistent with age.
