Absentee bids let you place your maximum bid on an item before the live auction begins. During the live show, we’ll continue bidding on your behalf up to your max bid — just like leaving a bid with a traditional auctioneer.
When you place an absentee bid, you’ll choose a bid strategy. Your chosen strategy determines how the current bid will be set at the time your bid is placed. Your maximum bid always remains confidential.
The available strategies are:
🐢 Slow & Steady — starts your bid low and lets others chase you.
⚡💥 Power Bid — starts at about half your max to show intent without revealing your top number.
♥️♠️ All In ♦️♣️ — sets the current bid to your full bid amount right away.
The current bid shown on each lot reflects all confirmed absentee bids and updates automatically as new bids come in.
When the live auction starts, bidding will begin at the current bid. The auctioneer will continue bidding on behalf of absentee bidders up to their max bids.
Because absentee bids can arrive seconds apart, the current bid you see may not always include bids still being processed. Refresh the page for the most up-to-date information.

Lot 061 - Antique Folk Art Pyrography Box Dated 1902, Inscribed E.M. Wing, W.D. Swan Jr., E. Jamieson, Abbie Wing, and Grandma A. Freeman, Newton, Massachusetts, with M.I.T. '07 Marking, Lamp, Landscape, and Floral Motifs, 8-1/4" L x 4-3/4" W x 4-3/8" H
Antique wooden box decorated on all surfaces with pyrography, dated 1902 and associated with several named individuals from Newton, Massachusetts. The lid features the initials "E.M.W." and "1902" flanked by pennant designs in the upper corners, with a burned cross-hatch border framing the composition. The front face is inscribed with three names grouped in a bracket — "W.D. Swan. Jr.," "E.M. Wing.," and "E. Jamieson." — alongside "Newton. Mass. U.S.A." Brass hardware includes a front clasp and two rear hinges.
The back of the box bears a large floral motif with leaves and a blossom. One side panel displays a windswept woman, while the opposite side features a detailed rendering of a table lamp with a decorative shade, along with the names "Esther" and "Patterson," the initials "A.N.W.," a bird in flight, and the marking "M.I.T. '07" accompanied by a triangular symbol with crossed elements and the date "1902."
The interior lid is inscribed "E.M. Wing," "Hunter," "Abbie Wing 1902," and "Grandma A. Freeman," along with small decorative burns and the letters "K" and "N." The interior bottom contains a pencil-drawn flower and the initials "E.M.W." The box shows surface wear, scratches, and minor staining consistent with age and use.
