2 Bids  |  8 Favs

1/6th plate tintype photograph depicting a Union soldier posed in uniform, shown standing with a serious expression. The subject wears a military cap and dark uniform with a vertical row of gilt-highlighted buttons, and a round badge or medallion pinned to the chest. A rifle or long arm is visible alongside the figure. The image is housed behind an ornate gilt brass mat featuring crossed American flags, an eagle with outstretched wings, cannon, and the motto “E Pluribus Unum.”

The tintype is contained in its original full leatherette case, which remains intact with hinge and closure present. The image exhibits scattered surface marks, light abrasions, and small losses to the emulsion, including visible speckling and wear consistent with age. The mat shows minor spotting and toning. No identifying photographer’s mark or inscription is present. Overall condition is consistent with mid-19th-century Civil War–era tintypes that have been cased and handled.
