Antique mounted and framed photograph depicting a Knight Templar parade marching south down Chestnut Street from the intersection with Elm Street in Camden, Maine, signed in the lower left corner “Harris Photo 1909.” The men in dark uniforms wear the distinctive Knight Templar skull-and-crossbones aprons and plumed hats, marching in formation before spectators, early automobiles, and horse-drawn wagons. Visible storefronts include “Camden Cigar Mfg. Co.,” “5 & 10 Cent Store,” and a barn marked “Livery, Feed and Boarding.”

Accompanied by extensive handwritten provenance notes identifying the vantage point as the French Block (then the tallest building in Camden) and referencing local businesses such as Sim Butler’s Barbershop and the Palmer family, prominent Black residents of the town. Notes attribute later ownership of nearby shops to the Crockett family and indicate the event was likely a Masonic parade or state convention. Additional note credits information to Fred Crockett, age 91, as of August 5, 2002.

Housed in its original wooden frame, showing light toning, foxing, and wear consistent with age. A historically important and well-documented image of early 20th century Camden fraternal and civic life.
