This antique autograph album titled "An Echo Album" was owned by Miss Henry J. Brisk and contains over 30 pages of handwritten inscriptions, poems, and sentiments from friends and acquaintances dating to the 1880s. Published by Bradley, Dayton & Co., Boston, 1862. The album features steel engraved illustrations including "Angel Whispers" depicting a young woman seated in contemplation beneath a tree with an angel above, and "Childhood" showing children at play in a garden setting. Interior pages alternate between cream-colored and pink tinted paper. Inscriptions include entries dated from the 1860s through 1883, signed by various individuals including W.B. Wardfield from Grisballtown dated December 7, 1863, J.M. Lewis, and Marshall Jones dated August 30, 1883. Many entries contain sentimental poems and well-wishes characteristic of Victorian-era autograph albums. Bound in black leather with elaborate debossed decorative border featuring scrollwork, floral motifs, and beaded trim. The front and back covers feature a central circular panel of yellow leather with gilt lettering reading "An Echo Album" surrounded by concentric embossed rings. Gilt decorative corner pieces accent the covers. The spine shows gilt lettering reading "Album" with ornamental flourishes. Moderate wear to leather binding with some scuffing and edge wear. Interior pages show light foxing and age toning. A charming example of Victorian social customs and friendship album traditions.
