Antique 1/9th plate daguerreotype photograph of a young woman seated and facing the camera. She wears a dark dress with a gathered bodice and full skirt, and a thin chain is visible at her neckline. She holds what appears to be a small book or case in her lap. The image is housed under a brass mat with a double-rope border and an arched rectangular opening.

The full intact leatherette case has a red velvet-lined interior on the left half with an embossed floral motif. The case is separating at the hinge, and the upper edge of the hinged cover is missing. The plate shows spotting and minor oxidation. The brass mat and preserver show light tarnishing.
