Here is a peculiar oil painting of a woman in a yellow dress with a matching umbrella and sunny expression. While the woman looks bright and cheerful, the background of the painting is noticeably dark and bleak, with just a bit of blue sky peaking through painted trees. The painting is in a gilt wood and gesso frame. As with most antique gesso frames, there is some wear and cracking in the frame, but it still looks quite nice. According to a label on the back of the canvas, this painting (or perhaps the blank canvas) was sold by Charles G. Calder at 258 Westminster Street in Providence Rhode Island.
